A Rose in Winter
In Winter, solid dew-drops hang
Unyielding to the fading Sun,
While melodies ice-crystals sang
Now through her motionless stems shall run.
Past empty branches light refracted
Reveal the Arctic’s frozen reign,
And the sense of life retracted
Shudders every creature’s vein.
My rose stands in the Winter, barren,
Not a twig nor leaf-bud stirring;
To others it may seem apparent
She shall not last long enduring.
But behold! When Spring again is drawing near,
She unfolds her blossoms dear.

A Rose in Bloom
O Rose, thy blooms are nature’s art
With vibrant hues of floral shade,
A gift that nature doth impart
From Heaven’s rainbow looms are made.
I cannot describe in simple words
The colour of thy reddish-pink,
Thy depth in any part absurds
Whatever description I may think.
Thy fragrant blooms and ornate leaves
Combine, producing clarity,
Thy gifts to me that thou bequeaths
A pleasant scent, and sight to see.
A petal I’ll hold in my memory;
To see it I shall think of thee.

To Love a Rose
A Rose has taught me how to love
Upon a merry Summer day.
The Sun was shining up above,
And I could not find any way
To describe her beauty, as it seemed
To glow most radiantly from that shelf
And I did feel like I just dreamed
And could not get a hold of myself.
So She is like this even now,
Just budding through her glossy leaves,
What shall happen should nature endow
Her with blossoms beyond my own beliefs?
But now, since we have joined as one,
The story of us has just begun.

Snow
February 3, 2017
The snow fell fast and heavy this morning, obscuring every surface that was not shielded from it by the trees. My father and I were the first to tread upon the bright, pristine blanket that seemed to have cleansed the world of all its dirt and roughness; I felt guilt for disrupting the beautiful, smooth, vast expanse of snow, but I had to reach my destination and some things would always be sacrificed for the sake of progress. As we drove, I realized that it was snowing all the way to UBC, where Eugene Onegin would be performed that night… how coincidental. The snow on the ground around me was as perfect as the snow on the poster for the opera. There was a strange feeling of descending melancholy in the sky, which no one else seemed to notice; was this good or bad? I considered myself a jovial person; this was a rare moment of sadness. I continued to brood throughout the day while I worked, periodically staring out the window at the soft gray sky and the falling

A Rose in Winter
This was written in winter when all things are affected by the cold, including my rose. It was after "A Rose in Bloom"

A Rose in Bloom
Following my first poem dedicated to my rose, "To Love a Rose", I wrote this one when its blossoms bloomed.

To Love a Rose
A while back (more than a few years ago), my parents bought a rose from the rose store. It was a Perfume Delight (that's a breed). I really liked it. I normally don't care all that much about plants, but this rose was just way too beautiful for me. I ended up writing five poems about it, which I'll post consecutively in the next few days.

This poem was written on the day it was brought home. I was young then, so my poetry might suck, so please don't judge if you don't like it. There's plenty more good poetry for you to read.

By the way, this was written way before "Snow"

Salutations. I'm an artist who's terrible at drawing, and I mainly joined to comment since my art cannot be compared with most of the other people here. Some things that I'm actually good at are creative writing and poetry, and I like Norse mythology, fungi, and anything about animals (except harming them). I'm a vegetarian, so please don't put bacon in here, however much you may adore it. I breed Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and I have a bearded dragon and two dogs.

Niiice! Bearded dragons are so awesome. They eat mealworms, crickets (unless yours is as lazy as mine, in which case it won't be able to eat crickets), and fruits and vegetables. Also, get some calcium and vitamin powders to dip the insects in 2 times every week for each.

Ohhh no mealworms!! I've been told to never feed them all of that.
Are vitamin and calcium powder the same?

Oh, I know quite a few people whose bearded dragons eat mealworms, but if you don't feed them that it's okay as long as you feed them other insects.

Vitamin and calcium powder aren't the same; if it's good, it should say what it is on the bottle, so you won't get confused.

Ooh, nice! Frogs are cool pets as long as you don't mind not handling them a lot. What species is it?
